Maui is a spectacular island! People come to experience the Hawaiian food, polynesian culture, island lifestyle, various eco-systems, almost perfect weather, and to see the golden-sandy beaches.
Baby Beach is one of the most popular family-oriented beaches. The water is calm and the beach is protected by reefs.
Known for good restroom and picnic facilities, Airport Beach has a grassy knoll for sunbathing. The water is deep and you will see tropical fish.
D.T. Fleming Beach Park is a great place to spend a half-day sunning, boogie boarding, and enjoying the views of Moloka’i.
On Hwy 30 past D.T. Fleming Beach you’ll come to Slaughterhouse Beach. There’s a lot of stairs to go down, but it’s an incredible beach.
One of the best snorkel spots on Maui is Black Rock Beach.
Located at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, Black Rock is famous for crystal-clear water and is perfect for families with small children and snorkel beginners.
Honolua Bay! Honolua Bay is a special place and one of the best bays to snorkel and scuba dive. It’s also a popular surfing spot.
Honolua Bay has limited parking, but you’ll walk through an incredible rainforest on the way to the entrance of the bay.
Napili Bay is one of the best beaches. It’s nice for families and the water is calm in the morning. It’s a “must-go-to” beach.
Kapalua Bay on the west side is also a good snorkel location. The waters are clear in the early morning.
Want to buy souvenirs and gifts? Go to the Maui Swap Meet on Saturday morning to get deals on T-Shirts, hand-made jewelry, and Maui-made crafts.
Staying in the Ka’anapali Resort Area? Ride the free Kaanapali Trolley that runs between the resorts and Whaler’s Village.
Lahaina Town is a must-see attraction. Front Street is a famous Hawaiian city known for its art galleries, restaurants, souvenir stores, shave ice stands, and the 100-year old Banyan Tree.
The Second Friday Town Party in Lahaina is a family-focused event that tourists have enjoyed for years.
Each November, Lahaina Town hosts its well-known event – the annual Halloween Festival on Front Street.
Front Street is closed to traffic and thousands of people walk up-and-down Front Street in the most hilarious costumes.
Many tourists take a day trip to Honolulu, to visit Pearl Harbor or just walk the Waikiki beaches.
Flying to and from Honolulu is a lot of fun – and the easiest and cheapest airline is Mokulele Airlines from Kapalua Airport on West Maui.
Consider flying to Honolulu and seeing the island of Oahu for a full day of adventure.
Spinner Dolphins! Snorkel boat companies go out of Lahaina Harbor, so years ago I took an excursion to the island of Lana’i.
On the way to the harbor we encountered Spinner Dolphins.
Sunrise Cafe is a small, family-run breakfast and lunch place on Front Street.
It’s across from the Baldwin Home Museum and serves outstanding breakfasts in a cool, down-home environment.
Ocean-Front Breakfast! Another restaurant directly over the ocean is Cheeseburger In Paradise.
At Cheeseburger In Paradise, the pancakes are good, the Bloody Mary is stout, and you’ll have an inspiring start to your morning with a spectacular view of the island of Lana’i.
Best Value! The best value breakfast place is 808 Grindz Cafe in Old Lahaina Shopping Center. It’s parallel to Front Street and offers excellent food at low prices.
808 Grindz Cafe offers breakfast and lunch items for $6.00, $7.00 and $8.08. Simply amazing, as the Eggs Benedict is just $8.08!
Good Happy Hour! The Sea House Restaurant at the Napili Kai has a “top notch” Happy Hour.
Many consider it the best Happy Hour. It hosts a tremendous view of Napili Beach and the sunsets are spectacular.
Located in Napili Plaza, Mama’s Ribs & Rotisserie is an excellent choice!
Mama’s offers both take-out to the beach or back to your condo or apartment. Either way, their BBQ chicken and ribs are excellent.
The Noodle Bar PHO restaurant hosts some of the best Vietnamese dishes on Maui.
The food is good, the prices are reasonable, and there are a lot of PHO items. If you’re looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant, go to Noodle Bar PHO.
A Favorite! Absolutely, one of the most popular places is 808 Grindz Cafe.
808 Grindz Cafe is only open from 7am to 2pm each day. And there is a long line each morning. Why? The BEST VALUE on West Maui!
The Cool Cat Cafe is famous for their burgers – winning “Best Burger” for over 12 years in a row.
Cool Cat Cafe is on the second floor of the Wharf Cinema Center and is across from the Banyan Tree and the Lahaina Harbor.
Along Hwy. 30, CJ’s Deli & Diner is know for their Hana Highway box lunch, excellent breakfast items, and outstanding sandwiches.
Lahaina Sushi Ko is one of Maui’s top sushi restaurants. This small, intimate sushi place has a large menu, excellent sushimi, and is just off Front Street.
Craving Sushi? Head to Lahaina Sushi Ko!
Surfside Woodfire Pizza Kitchen in the 505 Shopping Center is an excellent choice for gourmet pizza. Their 12 inch pizza is $19.00 and the gourmet BBQ Chicken pizza I had was outstanding.
Prison Street Pizza just off Front Street on Prison Street (of course) is good.
I love the slices! Prison Street Pizza is about the only place where you can buy a slice. For $3.75, you can get a large slice of pizza and with a soda, you have a reasonable lunch.
Lahaina Pizza Company is directly above Front Street and the rail seating offers a spectacular view of the ocean.
Lahaina Pizza serves a thick, Chicago-style pizza, but also offers sandwiches and salads.
Pi Artisan Pizzeria is another pizza place with an stunning view of the ocean.
It’s in the Outlets Of Maui shopping complex.
The pizza is good for the entire family. There’s a nice bar area, indoor seating, but you’ll want to sit outside and watch the sunset.
Sale Pepe is an Italian restaurant just off Front Street and is known for outstanding pizza.
Lahaina Town hosts some of the best sports bars on Maui!
Lahaina Sports Bar is one of the largest Maui sports bars, with a lot of TV’s, good drinks, excellent appetizers, and one of the best pizzas on Maui.
Spanky’s Riptide Sports Bar is also very popular, also sporting a lot of TV’s. It’s popular as you can sit and watch several sporting events at one time.
The Dirty Monkey on Front Street is also a good sports bar, offering a huge selection of global whiskeys with good American bar food.
The Dirty Monkey hosts local entertainment throughout the day.
One of the best Kihei Happy Hour experiences is at 5 Palms Restaurant.
5 Palms Restaurant is located at the Mana Kai Maui Resort and has one of the best ocean views of any restaurant on Maui. The short ribs are outstanding, and the Mai Tai is stout.
Another popular eatery is the Southside Paia Fish Market . Truly one of the best fish places and the prices are reasonable.
There’s normally a line at Paia Fish Market, but it tends to move quick and it’s an open-air dining experience with plenty of parking.
One of my very favorites places to eat breakfast is Kihei Caffe.
The Kihei Caffe is a local go-to place with counter service, outdoor seating, and a huge menu featuring southern-style dishes. I enjoy the biscuits-n-gravy and the fried rice breakfast.
Kihei Caffe opens at 5am and closes at 3pm, making it a great place for breakfast before going to the beach.
Pizza Madness Maui on is a bit hard to find, but well worth the effort. The pizza was outstanding and the chicken wings were good.
Pizza Madness is a place to try when you’re having a “Pizza Craving” in the Kihei area.
Gyro King can be found at the Home Depot near the Kahului Airport. Gyro King offers the best Greek Gyro and salads you’ll find anywhere. Also, Gyro King has an extensive Greek menu and the prices are quite reasonable.
Food trucks can be found all over Maui.
While shopping at what locals call “The Queen’s Mall“, stop-in for some good margaritas, cheviche, and enchiladas.
Steve’s Best Breakfast Value! No question here — it’s 808 Grindz.
Steve’s FAV Pizza in Lahaina! I really like the pizza at Lahaina Sports Bar and the gourmet pizza by Surfside Woodfire Pizza Kitchen.

In the upcountry town of Makawao are two good places to eat – Casanova Italian Restaurantand Makawao Steak House. Stop at this “Hawaiian cowboy” town on your way down from a sunrise visit at Haleakala Crater.
Spanky’s Riptide sports bar is open again and the well-known Paia Fish Market has opened a restaurant on Front Street in Lahaina. Also in Lahaina, stop by The Dirty Monkey for a large selection of craft beers and specialty whiskeys.
